Parents are saying
. . .
I have a great story to share with you about Evan. He had a
biography book report and presentation due today, and he had chosen
Albert Einstein. Evan was inspired by Einstein because he had
started off slowly in elementary school, and as he matured, he grew
and became recognized as a famous genius. Evan not only read
the book, prepared his report and the visual very well, he managed
to explain Einstein's Theory of Relativity to his third grade
classmates! Evan explained the theory not only relating to
solid matter, but how the theory can be applied to thoughts,
feelings, and ideas. I was blown away, thinking back on the
time only one year ago when Evan's second grade teacher expressed
serious concern over Evan's mental (depressed and withdrawn) and
academic state. Evan has come so far since last Spring.
He has come out of his shell, and happily bounces off to school
every day. Evan believes in himself now, and is visualizing
and materializing great things for his this year, and beyond!
I credit The Fluency Factory, working along with South School, for
Evan's great success. Thank you so much!

I have recommended to sixteen families that they use the services of the Fluency Factory – and they have all been equally pleased with
their
children's progress. Fluency Factory offers a very sequential,
carefully
mapped out program where children can be successful every time they make the effort to learn.

After attending The Fluency Factory for two months my son achieved
High Honors for the first time. We attribute his success to his
improved speed in writing, reading and composition. Thank you!

Before the Fluency Factory, our son dreaded
reading. It has been a difficult and stressful process for him in
trying to decode the words, but these past four months, we have seen
a wonderful reader emerge. From the beginning, he loved to come home
and practice his fluency in printing ONES, O's, and X's
in 15 seconds, better known as the "beat the clock" game. I love how this simple idea teaches the kids
in a fun way so many useful tools in writing and printing.
He loves to beat his own score.
His DRA reading evaluations improved (4
steps), since June 2002 (second grade) which puts his reading
at the appropriate stage for his grade level.
He is much happier with himself and looks
forward to going to the "factory" where he can have fun
while at the same time challenge himself to read more
fluently with the skills he has learned from Mr. McManus. We
are grateful that his confidence and self esteem are back so he can
feel motivated to read.
Thanks for all your enthusiastic
help.

Educators are saying
. . .
As an educational consultant specializing in working with children
and adolescents with complex learning, communication and social
challenges, I am always on the lookout for schools and programs that
can meet my clients’ needs. Many of the students I work with
have multiple challenges and have met with failure after failure in
their public school settings and sometimes in one, two or more
out-of-district placements. Understandably this can have
extreme and long-lasting effects on a student’s confidence,
self-esteem and motivation. It is no surprise that many kids
give up trying to learn and become increasingly angry and depressed.
Last year I had an opportunity to observe one of my clients, a
teenager with developmental delays, at your program at the Fluency
Factory. I had observed him about 18 months prior to seeing
him at your program and he was having a terrible time at school.
He was not reading – anything – or writing, was very disruptive and
had few leisure or social skills and no friends. I then
observed him at an out-of-district, private school placement, and he
appeared compliant but introverted and unsure of himself.
To say that I was bowled over when I saw him at the Fluency Factory
is not an overstatement; he was reading on at least a fourth grade
level, was able to answer questions and demonstrate comprehension of
some abstract ideas, and most important, he was truly enjoying
learning and showing off. His eye contact and general affect
were greatly improved, and he engaged in some spontaneous
interactions with the other children present. His humor and
enjoyment of life were apparent to me for the first time.
Subsequently I discovered that a number of my other clients who had
learned to read – or read better -- had also attended the Fluency
Factory. They also demonstrated marked improvements in both
decoding and comprehension. According to their parents they
had become far more successful, not only in literacy skills but also
in their social interactions and willingness to interact with peers,
pursue new interests and take risks.
I have since referred several children and their families to your
program, and I am thrilled to hear that you are expanding it and
creating a more comprehensive school that can address all aspects of
learning and social/emotional development. I look forward to
making many more referrals.
While I am not a reading specialist, I am a good evaluator of
educational programs and schools and can spot the appropriate
components for the children and adolescents I serve. Your
vision, methodology and dedication are certain to help many children
and adolescents who need and deserve a chance to succeed in school
and in life.
