Individualized Education Offerings for Summer 2008One-to-one tutoring for students ranging in age from pre-school through high school. Our programs are designed to build mastery and success as the student progresses through the content. Throughout our courses we help our students reach fluent performance levels, assuring that they will be able to retain the material they learn—and have the confidence to undertake new challenges. We use research-based, highly successful curriculum materials in every instructional area. Fees are based upon the number of sessions purchased at one time, and can be found on our Fees page. Programs include: If your child is not currently at or above grade level in reading, summer is the ideal time to make up lost ground. Children who are not fluent readers are at risk for serious difficulties in school. Our reading program offers the most successful combination of phonics and fluency that is presently available. Frequently children are performing far below their potential. We can help those children return to their own grade level through our intensive phonics-based instruction. We use the Teach Your Children To Read Well series and supplement with Fluent Auditory Discrimination to build phonemic awareness and facility with sounds and sounding out. Our program is successful with all children! We have also helped advanced students move still further ahead, providing individualized challenges that give them the additional mastery they want. Once students are able to read fluently there are additional levels of comprehension that must be attained. We offer a variety of group and individual reading comprehension courses. Individual comprehension courses are geared to student’s current reading performance level and will build better understanding and inferential reasoning skills for understanding a variety of different types of reading materials. All recent research demonstrates that fluent reading of sounds, words and stories is critical to success in school. Comprehension rests upon fluent decoding of the material being read and goes further to help a student understand both the details and the important elements of text. Many of the local schools are using an approach to math that helps students understand the concepts and become skilled at problem solving. However, relatively few South Shore school districts are currently providing support and practice in basic computation skills. We believe both elements are important for developing confidence and success in math. Therefore we assure mastery by using Precision Teaching to build mastery of all of the math computation components. We build each skill to the highest level of performance and then graduate students to work on word problems, pre-algebra, or other relevant math skills. We offer intensive support for building advanced math and science skills on an individual basis throughout the summer. |
