Standardized Test Preparation

We know how important standardized tests can be, and so we have developed a rigorous program of instruction and preparation for standardized tests at both the high school and middle school level.  Result: After receiving instruction at the Fluency Factory, our students have been extremely successful in taking these tests.

Some feedback we've received ...

“No way I would have done so well—I was very prepared to take the SSAT thanks to Mr. McManus and the Fluency Factory.”

Justin Ryder, Hingham, MA

“Justin’s performance was amazing! He was every well prepared and scored above the 90th percentile on both math and verbal sections of the SSAT.  He will be a strong candidate for the private schools he wants to attend.”

Justin’s mother, Marcy Ryder, Hingham, MA

Help for Kids Playing Catch Up

We have also helped to revive the academic performance of middle and high school students who have lost focus or who have been overwhelmed trying to manage a heavy athletic and social calendar.  Many students, once they find themselves struggling, will simply give up, falling into a spiral that can damage both their current skills and their futures, reducing their options for success later in life.  Although these students need a great deal of skill building and support, they can become happily successful through an intensive program.

Foundation Skills for All Students

Many of the students we have helped come to us struggling with math and reading.  We have also helped dyslexic and reading disabled students to fully overcome their learning problems and become skilled and disciplined learners who are at or above grade level.

Special Education Services

We have successfully assisted students with developmental disabilities to become successful in their school programs.  Our students have included individuals labeled as having autistic spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Prader-Willi syndrome and non-verbal learning disabilities.  Our rigorous curriculum approach has helped ensure that all of these students have done very well.

Our Curriculum Approach

For students at every level, we employ Precision Teaching and Direct Instruction, two powerful approaches that are extremely effective used together.  In Precision Teaching, student progress toward mastery is carefully measured in terms of the increase in the number of correct responses per minute.  It is a quantitative technique that removes the uncertainty from the process of developing individualized instruction tailored to each student.  Direct Instruction provides a wide range of sophisticated learning curricula that teach reading, comprehension, spelling and composition.

We develop our own highly individualized materials and approaches, and work with students to make certain that they have fully mastered all their skills.

Parents and Students Love the Fluency Factory!

"The Fluency Factory has been an amazing help in preparing me for all of my academic challenges.  I spent a summer at the Fluency Factory preparing for my difficult school year ahead. They tutored me in multiple subjects; we worked hard but always in a fun, enjoyable atmosphere.  When I got back to school I felt I had a jump start on my schoolwork and started to succeed.  My next challenge was SAT's.  I spent many Saturdays in the Fluency Factory.  The Fluency Factory helped me set goals and then work to achieve them.  Because of the Fluency Factory I have improved many aspects of my education but the thing I felt best about was the confidence the tutors and Richard gave me.  I now feel like I can achieve any goal I set.  Everything is a positive and everyone is always smiling.  The energy and positive reinforcement makes everyone want to succeed, and everyone at the Fluency Factory loves to see you succeed.  For this I am unbelievably thankful to the Fluency Factory for all that they have done to help me."

—Lindsey Allard, senior at Thayer Academy

"I have recommended to sixteen families that they use the services of the Fluency Factoryand they have all been equally pleased with their children's progress.  The Fluency Factory offers a very sequential, carefully mapped out program where children can be successful every time they make the effort to learn."

—Sandra Strazzulla, Cohasset, MA

Beal Street Academy

Beal Street Academy, affiliated with the Fluency Factory, is a small private school serving students in grades 6 through 12.  Using the same teaching approaches as the Fluency Factory, its goal is to provide a fresh start for children who have struggled to achieve their full potential.

The Academy welcomes students who have fallen behind due to illness, disability, or problems with a one-size-fits-all instruction model.  In many cases the school can help a student make up lost ground and quickly return to his or her referring school, newly equipped with self confidence and the skills to succeed.

On September 4, 2009, Beal Street Academy received provisional approval from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and can now accept referrals from cities and towns.
